Traditional Antique & Modern Upholstery & Re-covering

Armchair
The photos show a traditional armchair at various stages during the re-upholstery process.

The chair is first stripped leaving any salvageable upholstery in place. Then the upholstery is built back up using webbing, hessian, springs and curled hair. The upholstery is stitched to form the shape and definition of the chair front edge, the front arms and the top of the back, followed by a second layer of hair, a layer of cotton felt and calico. Finally the chair is covered with the top fabric and piping, and the seat cushion is machined.
